Artist Statement

My work explores the liminal space between reality and the subconscious, where memory, symbolism, and the human condition converge. Through painting, drawing, and mixed media, I construct figurative worlds that exist in a constant dialogue between the classical and the contemporary, the rational and the dreamlike.

Rooted in my formative years in Holguín, Cuba, and shaped by subsequent experiences across Ecuador and the United States, my practice draws from the visual language of surrealism while evolving into a personal form of magical realism. I am particularly interested in the tension between the visible and the invisible — the narratives that unfold beneath the surface of everyday life and the archetypal forces that continue to shape human experience.

Technical precision and conceptual depth are inseparable in my process. I place strong emphasis on craftsmanship: the careful modulation of color, the integrity of line, and the refinement of surface. These formal concerns serve not as ends in themselves, but as vehicles for emotional and psychological inquiry. Each work becomes a stage where figures, symbols, and environments interact in ways that resist singular interpretation, inviting the viewer into a space of contemplation and ambiguity.

Ultimately, my art seeks to challenge conventional perceptions and to expand the frontiers of what figurative representation can hold. It is an ongoing investigation into how the intimate and the universal, the personal and the mythic, can coexist within a single image.
